With the new release of their amazing deep house EP, we catch up with London based Aphrodisiax to find out a little more and just exactly what they would like for Christmas

1) So tell us a bit about yourselves for those who are new to the “AphroDisiax” Sound?

AphroDisiax are a DJ / production collective originating from London.  We have had releases on labels like Defected, MN2S, Soul Heaven, TRIBE, Foliage, Seamless, Soul Shine + more. Our sound is anything house, we dont have a specific style we’re more about what we are feelin at the particular time….we even make the odd broken beat record from time to time 🙂 Check ’em out…

2) It’s said that label boss John Jones contacted you with regards to material after being really impressed with your last release “Falling” on Mn2s. Tell us a bit about this release?
This release is special for us as we got to work with an artist we admire a lot – Jaidene Veda from Canada, she is amazingly talented and we’ve always wanted to work with her! When we finished creating the instrumental track we kind of collectively sat back and were like “You know what, Jaidene Veda would sound DOPE on this” and low & behlold we made it happen, in fact she heard it and fell in love with it straight away…the music and the song / vocals marry together beautifully, it was like a match made in heaven 🙂

3) Give us a bit of background with regards to the development of “The Kernel EP”, were there any inspirations to help forge it?
With this EP we were taking things a bit deeper…on Kernel we sampled on old record that has been massive for us over the years, Colonel Abrams – Trapped! We use the accapella often in our DJ sets over instrumental / groove type tracks & always get a good reaction from the crowd. So one day we thought hey lets use this over one of our productions – and so the track was born.

4) As you’re aware, this is the second release on the newly founded Yoversion Records. What made you go with the label?
Well we have a lot of respect for label boss John Jones and really admire his vision and enthusiasm! There is no doubt Yoversion will go on to do great things and really flourish as a label and probably more too, so we’re keen to be part of the movement. Also they showed great faith in AphroDisiax and our Kernel EP too so that goes a long way for us !

5) For the techy’s out there, what set up are you using for the production development on this EP?
The EP was made using mainly our NI Maschine + our good friends and trusted keyboards the JUNO 106 + the Moog Little Phatty Stage II …..with a touch of Logic9 of course 🙂

6) What have been the releases that you have been most proud of to date since you formed? (Please submit any youtube links)
Wow thats hard to answer as we our proud of all our babies 🙂 However, we have worked with one of the greatest musicians alive – Kaidi Tatham (bugz in the attic), who played both keys and flute on some of our tracks ! Notably our 2nd ever release which was a remix of the Flowriders song Russelology. Our remix using Kaidi is titled AphroDisiax ‘Kaidi On The Keys’ Vox Mix

We’ve also had 2 house music legends cross our path Mike Dunn & Roland Clark who we have remixed for and been remixed by …this was a big honour for us and the latter was licensed to a Defected Compilation!

Roland Clark – Soul Good (AphroDisiax Mix)

7) What plans do you have up and coming, as we enter the festive period with regards to material and shows?
We have a 2 singles due out after the festivities on German label Foliage – featuring a vocalist we work closely with Sabrina Chyld. We also have some more EP’s in the same vein as our Kernel EP ready to go so watch out for them.

8) What would you like for Christmas?
We would like Traxsource + Beatport Number 1’s for our Kernel EP 🙂

The Kernel EP is out now on Traxsource, Beatport, iTunes, Juno and all good other online stores
